FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pursuing a Final Agreement for the Acquisition of Josiah White’s Quakerdale Foundation New Providence Campus New Providence, IA - January 22, 2024 - Josiah White’s Quakerdale Foundation, an Iowa nonprofit corporation,
is delighted to announce that it is in the final stages of discussions with Lance Thornton for the purchase of the New Providence campus, including some contiguous pasture and tillable acres totaling approximately 180 acres. These acres are part of almost 600 farm acres owned in Hardin County, Iowa, and another almost 600 farm acres in Lee County, Iowa. Lance Thornton, the buyer, has a deeply personal connection to the
New Providence campus. As a student in the 1980s, his life was profoundly impacted by Quakerdale’s mission and services. Driven by a genuine desire to give back and promote positive change, Mr. Thornton aims to provide resources that will enhance the foundation's ability to make a meaningful impact on children and families across the state and beyond. Both Josiah White’s Quakerdale Foundation and Mr. Thornton have engaged
in extensive discussions, emphasizing a commitment to actively pursue a final agreement which aligns with the foundation's mission and financial goals. This decision has undergone a extensive evaluation process, involving thorough research and discussions at different levels within the Board of Directors over the course of three years. This acquisition is deemed beneficial to the foundation, paving the way for a strategic
transition. Importantly, the foundation reassures the community that family-friendly services will continue on the campus, reflecting a commitment to maintaining a positive and supportive environment for all stakeholders. In addition to the pursuit of this agreement, both parties have expressed their dedication to supporting the operational aspects post-closing. This commitment includes collaboration to secure additional
funding through grants and related sources, and other strategic initiatives. The agreement under consideration also involves the continuation and expansion of home school activities, athletic teams, camps, and events. Additionally, plans include establishing a Lavender Farm, a walking path through the pastures, remodeling former youth cottages, educating and promoting the mission and history of Quakerdale. The goal is to
develop the campus into a versatile destination where groups, families, churches, and organizations can meet and enjoy the facilities. This transformation is rooted in the initial purpose of the campus – to help children and families find hope, experience growth, and strengthen their faith in the mission of Christ. For
